On June 16, the pilgrims completing their journey in Mecca, but for most Muslims around the world, our hearts remain somber, centred on Gaza.
Faith communities intrinsically and vicariously feel the joys and pains of their fellow believers. Jews are experiencing it for those impacted heavily by Oct. 7. It has undoubtedly shaken their faith in humanity; they feel unsafe and are rightly worried about the release of hostages. Even though many Muslims have never visited Gaza, we too are experiencing the pain and suffering, the suffocation of Palestinians, many of whom are women and children.
