Norwich Lanes Association, which represents independent shops, is encouraging shoppers to head to St Giles Street after five stores closed in just six months.

Jonty Young from the group – which is made up of volunteers, many of who are shop owners – said they are aiming to increase the number of visitors to the street in the run-up to Christmas.

He said: “There has been a noticeable amount of change in the area.

"Very soon we will be doing photographs for Christmas promotions for all the businesses who are Lanes members.

“It’s a stunning street and well worth visiting.........
