County Hall leader David Bick has written to energy secretary Ed Miliband to say, should he give schemes such as East Pye, the Droves, High Grove and Tasway Energy Park the go-ahead, Norfolk County Council will fight the decisions in the High Court.

Mr Bick said: "Let me put you and your department on formal notice - the Reform UK-led Norfolk County Council does not support any of these net zero-driven schemes that will industrialise the British countryside and we will use every available mechanism to prevent or delay these projects.

"Furthermore, we will resort to a judicial review if necessary."

Judicial reviews are where the lawfulness of decisions are challenged in the courts.

The solar farms, covering acres of land in south and west Norfolk, are classed as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, because they are needed for energy security and to meet government net zero targets.

Whether they get the go-ahead or not will ultimately be decided by Mr Miliband, following advice from planning inspectors.
