‘BCI has nothing to do with this’: CJI Surya Kant backs NALSAR students’ right to protest

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant strongly questioned the Bar Council of India’s intervention in the NALSAR student protest, saying the BCI had no business issuing circulars over a dialogue between students and him. The Supreme Court also protected students and faculty from punitive action while seeking the BCI’s response.

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Thursday strongly questioned the Bar Council of India’s intervention in the NALSAR student protest, saying the council had no role in interfering with a dialogue between students and him.

The remarks came as the Supreme Court agreed to hear NALSAR University of Law’s plea challenging two BCI circulars issued amid the controversy.
