Farewell my colorful pal
Peter Max, my longtime forever friend. We dinner’d together. I visited his studio, he visited my home. I have more Maxes than furniture. When a magazine printed a full-page glossy black-and-white photo of me, he Peter Max’d the magazine’s full page. He did my friend Our Town columnist Arlene Kayatt’s face on a paper napkin. She framed it.
Comedian Gary Willner remembered this. “I was MC’ing a place in Jersey. In those days Peter was praying to Our Lady of the Tax Shelter. He’d even painted a whole airplane for the Clintons. I remember him telling Cindy: ‘Rembrandt was not really a bad painter.’ ”
Willner recounts that I sent him word that I was there in the club with Peter Max and would he introduce Max........
