Turkey preparing to serve as mediator in Sudanese civil war
Sudan’s de facto leader Abdulfettah al-Burhan has confirmed that his government accepted an offer from Turkey to serve as a mediator in the ongoing civil war.
In a December 13 phone call between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and al-Burhan, the Turkish leader recommended that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) be involved in talks to negotiate an end to the years-running conflict. The UAE has been accused of supplying weapons to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a rival military faction formerly affiliated with the Sudanese military that broke away in 2023 and now forms the primary rebel group involved in the conflict.
