Britain will never let America take control of Greenland against its will, a cabinet minister has warned Donald Trump.

Lisa Nandy said the UK government’s position on the Arctic island’s sovereignty is “non-negotiable”.

The culture secretary spoke out after Trump said he would impose tariffs on the UK and seven other European countries for opposing his plan to take over Greenland, which is part of the kingdom of Denmark.

Keir Starmer has already described the move as “completely wrong”.

Nandy told the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg: “We would never allow any changes to be made to the future of Greenland without the consent of the people of Greenland........
