The incidents of fighting, physical altercations, injuries, and violence against women that occurred yesterday in the Turkish Grand National Assembly will forever be remembered as a dark stain on the history of our democracy. We might have expected to witness such scenes in far-off places, perhaps in other countries, but the thought of them happening within our own parliamentary walls was beyond imagination. Yet today, what transpired in our assembly—the very symbol of our democracy and the will of the people—has deeply shaken and embarrassed us........
