SNOBELEN: Climbing — and falling — with climate warrior Steven Guilbeault

I guess the guy just ran out of stuff to climb.

At the age of five, little Steven Guilbeault was obstinate. He climbed a tree to prevent it from being felled and he refused to come down. Eventually, he returned to earth and the tree met its inevitable fate.

The young Guilbeault apparently regarded this futile effort as a tremendous victory and went off to find new ways to be obstinate and taller stuff to climb. You can’t say he lacked imagination.

Twenty-five years ago, Guilbeault climbed the CN Tower and unfurled a banner that read “Canada and Bush Climate Killers.” The stunt came a week before the now-annual United Nations climate fest that adopted the ill-fated Kyoto Protocol.  The results of his climate activism did little for the climate, but the climbing was impressive.

A year later, the intrepid climber found a new, smaller........
