Emotions were running high in Sheringham after its town council voted to not support Norfolk County Council's plans to demolish the much-loved 1950s structure in Station Approach.

From eruptions of applause to chants of "we won", campaigners were overcome with relief after nine days of protests and two stand-offs with bailiffs threatening eviction.

Katie Hart, who started the petition, said: "The atmosphere has been amazing - it felt like a weight has been lifted."

And in response to the result of the meeting on Tuesday night, the county council said it will be stopping all work and will withdraw from the site altogether.........
