Wymondham High Academy is planning to impose the rule for pupils in Year 7 to Year 11 in January and students will be given lockable phone pouches to put their devices in during school hours.

Sixth formers at the school are being trusted to regulate their phone use and will not be given a pouch.

In the letter to parents seen by this newspaper, the headteacher, Chris Smith, said: "We are taking this step now because we believe it is the right thing for our students.
