Councillors gathered in Fakenham on Wednesday to witness the first shovels break ground as part of a £11.63m scheme unanimously backed by North Norfolk District Council.

Spirits were high at the construction site on Trap Lane as officials were finally able to celebrate following a planning process that has faced many hurdles.

Discussed for years, plans for the improved leisure centre and pool were finally put in motion after the Conservative government allocated £10m towards the project in November 2023.

However the scheme was thrown into uncertainty after Labour entered........
