Holt, in north Norfolk, lends itself to a leisurely day of browsing independent shops and galleries, lingering over long coffees and lunches, and rounding things off with a wander through the country park.

Visitors should start their day in the Market Place, where the town's Georgian facades and neat flint buildings set the tone.
