An inquest into the death of Mary Allday heard the 96-year-old had been living at a care home in South Wootton and was the widow of William Allday, with whom she had previously run pubs.

A family statement read out to Norfolk Coroner's Court described the King's Lynn resident as “independent”.

It added: "Mary took lots of comfort and happiness from her dog.

“She also loved gardening, however in the last few years she had experienced a decline in her health........
