Pavement parking making life difficult for wheelchair users in commuter village
The problem was raised with Belton with Browston Parish Council after a resident of Amhurst Gardens in Belton said vehicles parked on footpaths and damaging the surface, making it difficult to get around.
The issue was discussed at the council’s meeting last month.
It was generally agreed the problem appeared to be affecting other parts of the village as well.
The council resolved to ask Norfolk County Council highways about the process and costs involved in creating a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to address parking on pavements.
The clerk was also asked to forward the resident’s concerns to the village’s beat officer, PC Saggers.
Cllr Nigel Light said future planning applications should include enough on-site parking to reduce the risk of pavement parking in new developments.
Last year, concerns from villagers regarding safety on the A143 resulted in an order which reduced the speed limit on the road, between Belton and Fritton, to 50mph.
