Huge new warehouse planned for Norfolk port
Peel Ports has submitted papers related to plans for “port‑related” storage on land between South Beach Parade and South Denes Road, within the operational harbour.
The shed would be approximately 9,300 sqm – equivalent to about one and a half football pitches – and could handle up to 25,000 tonnes of materials linked to import and export activity.
It would be used to store and handle agricultural goods such as grain, animal feed and fertiliser.
At this stage Peel Ports has not submitted a full planning application, but instead asked Great Yarmouth Borough Council for what is known as an “EIA screening opinion”.
This will decide whether the project needs a full environmental impact assessment before it can move forward.
As part of that screening, counter‑terrorism officers were consulted over whether fertiliser might be stored in the new building, but have since confirmed they do not need to comment after being told the planned use does not involve ammonium nitrate.
