Inheritance tax worries dominate discussions at farming conference
The 2025 Larking Gowen Autumn Farming Conference attracted more than 250 farmers, landowners and rural business owners to a series of seminars at Ipswich, Diss, Fakenham and Norwich.
The annual event is organised by accountancy firm Larking Gowen, supported by the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), with other speakers from firms including Ashtons Legal, Brown&Co, the Alan Boswell Group and Beckett Financial Services.
Industry experts gave advice on financial issues arising from the Budget, including changes to capital gains tax and pensions legislation, as well as updates on the government's Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and other environmental payment schemes.
But a major topic was the impact of the chancellor's controversial decision to cut inheritance tax relief for farms valued over £1m.
