Chalet plans turned down after neighbours hit the roof

James Williams has been refused outline permission to build a two-bed home on a plot between existing properties at Watlington, between King's Lynn and Downham Market.

It came after neighbours on Langridge Circle, a new estate which was completed in 2011, said it would overlook their properties and cause drainage issues.

One said its windows and front door would be directly opposite their house, with little distance between the properties.

They added: "This would create an uninterrupted view into my home, causing a significant and unacceptable loss of privacy for myself and my family."

They also said the proposed site was a narrow strip of land which provided "valuable green space within a densely built-up estate".

Another posted on the council's planning portal: "Windows on the side of the proposed property would be overlooking my garden and would impact on my right to privacy.

"I have two young female children, and there would be a direct view into their bedrooms from the first floor."

Objectors said the proposed site had a culvert running through it and building on it could cause flooding, with one adding: "It appears from one of the drawings that piles will be sunk which will raise the proposed building above the culvert and we have concerns, not only over the noise from this work, but also on possible long term affects from disturbance to the ground in the surrounding area."

A proposed pond behind the new property was labelled "unsanitary", while another object said: "This area is bad enough with traffic and parked cars without adding more."

A planning officer warned the plot was too narrow for development before the plans were refused.

They added: "It is, of course, open to you to appeal the decision once made."
