Retailer in city shopping centre shuts its doors

The Claire's branch in Chantry Place has closed, with the interior of the shop gutted.

A sign has also been placed on the door, confirming the closure and advising customers to visit the nearest outlet in Castle Quarter.

Claire's shops across the country have faced an uncertain future for a number of months now, following financial difficulties.

It had agreed to sell 156 shops to investment group Modella Capital, securing around 1,000 jobs.

However, the sale only saved just over half of the chain's 300 outlets around the UK and Ireland, with 145 branches not included in the deal.

Outlets in King's Lynn and Great Yarmouth both closed following the financial difficulties last year.

It was initially reported that both the Castle Quarter and Chantry Place stores would remain open.
