Zoo faces six-figure business rates bill after being hit by budget hikes

Banham Zoo now faces a six-figure business rates bill of more than £106,000 a year, which is up 65pc on the £64,000 it currently pays.

Meanwhile, Africa Alive, in Kessingland, near Lowestoft, has been hit with a 50pc increase, with its rates rising from £37,000 to £56,000 annually.

It comes as business rates for firms across the country have gone up by tens of thousands of pounds per year, despite the chancellor claiming she was introducing the "lowest tax rates since 1991" in her budget last week.
