Breakenridge: Chahal tied for better or worse to Trudeau's fortunes
For those who were relieved to see Prime Minister Justin Trudeau skip this year’s Calgary Stampede, it might just be the city’s lone Liberal MP you have to thank.
To whatever extent George Chahal has contributed to Trudeau’s current political misery, though, let’s not give him too much credit. His track record of fealty to the leader isn’t erased by a sudden glimpse of independence.
As for Trudeau’s absence here, there is the matter of the NATO leader’s summit beginning today and the Prime Minister’s Office has cited this as an excuse for taking a pass on Stampede. Mind you, if Trudeau was really determined to make an appearance, he would have late last week and the weekend to do so.
Visiting Stampede, though, would have surely meant a visit and appearance with the MP for Calgary-Skyview, and Chahal probably isn’t Trudeau’s favourite person right now. Chahal is one of a group of Liberal MPs who signed a letter calling on the prime........
