The Democrats want to give health care to illegal immigrants, so said Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. These types of banner statements are designed to provoke resentment.

But this is also a misrepresentation of facts, facts known to Johnson.

Based on his own words, he is well aware that the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) requires (most) hospitals to treat anyone seeking emergency medical treatment "regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay."

This law has been on the books since April 7, 1986. It is on the books for a reason; it was needed.........
