Editorial: Don't save the Catskill OTB
Catskill OTB has long been beleaguered by poor management and fiscal issues and should not be bailed out by the state.
It’s a little comical that the New York State Gaming Commission seems surprised to hear the Catskill Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation didn’t exactly follow the playbook in announcing its plan to cease operations while seeking legislative assistance and reorganization.
It's been a long time since Catskill OTB has done much of anything right.
In case you’ve forgotten, in 2018 the state Inspector General's Office found, among other issues, that Catskill OTB's offices were overflowing with trash to the point they had to hold meetings in rented rooms while spending millions on warehouses to store "worthless items and garbage." Then, when the IG’s report came out, and the Gaming Commission followed........
