Troy golfer Samantha Schuffenecker proving she belongs in major amateur events
Troy's Samantha Schuffenecker won the inaugural Capital Region Amateur Championship at McGregor in June.
It was yet another season of growth on the links for Samantha Schuffenecker of Troy.
She won the inaugural Capital Region Amateur Championship at McGregor and qualified for the USGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Golf Championship. It was her third time playing in the USGA Mid-Am, with previous showings in 2021 (Berkeley Hall) and 2022 (Fiddlesticks).
The Mid-Amateur, held at Brae Burn Country Club in West Newton, Mass., proved to be a challenge for Schuffenecker and the field. She got off to a rough start with a triple on the first hole, recording scores of 84-82 (166) on the testy Donald Ross 6,135-yard layout. Despite the struggles, she missed qualifying for the match play round of 64 by just 3 strokes.
