Assistant pros took varied golf career paths

As high school girls’ golf continues to grow each year, the seeds that were planted years ago are sprouting.
Two women who played high school golf and are now working as assistant pros in the Capital Region took different paths to land their first post-graduate career jobs in the golf industry.
Schuyler Lorette of McGregor and Abigail Laime of Ballston Spa took different paths towards the same goals.

Lorette, 22, in her first year as an assistant pro at McGregor, is a 2020 Columbia High graduate who attended Florida Gulf Coast and enrolled in its PGA golf management program. She graduated in the spring and was elected by the PGA to her Class A license after doing all the “book work” in school. She was hired by Mike Decker, the Head Golf Professional at McGregor Links Country Club.
“It’s been a great season working for Mike Decker. He’s really great to work for,” she said.
