Skijoring a chance to write a new chapter of adventure with a canine companion

Like a new notebook, a snowy field invites adventurers to lay down some marks and create a story. After the first decent snowfall this year, I set out with our 1-year-old dog, Cooper, to see if we could write a new story of winter adventure — a fresh chapter for him, and a retelling for me.

The last time I put on skis and hooked myself to a canine companion, the dog was elderly and slow and an experienced skijoring companion. So when I put the skijoring harness on Cooper, I was in some ways starting from scratch.

I wasn’t sure what story we would write together. Would Cooper be scared of my skis? Would he hate the harness? Would he get wrapped up in the bungee that linked us? And, maybe most importantly, would he pull?
