ALBANY — Presidential campaigns don't often come to our corner of the country.

Sure, you may remember the thrill of those heady days in 2016, when charmers such as Ted Cruz, John Kasich and even some guy named Donald Trump traipsed through the area ahead of the New York Republican primary.

"We're going to win so much you may even get tired of winning," Trump memorably said during a downtown Albany rally. "And you'll say, 'Please, please. It's too much winning. We can't take it anymore.'"

Fun times, those.

Alas, these days our vote is taken for granted or seen as irrelevant by presidential candidates, who tend to visit only when they're forced. That's pretty much what happened with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who kicked around Albany for a few recent days so he could testify in a trial that may knock him off New York's November ballot. He'd undoubtedly have preferred to be anywhere else.
