Churchill: If Dan McCoy didn't know, the airport's board has gone rogue

Ladies and gentlemen, the Albany airport board has gone rogue. No other conclusion makes sense.

After all, County Executive Dan McCoy says he didn’t know that Albany County Airport Authority board members were going to jettison Phil Caderone, the popular and successful airport CEO. In the middle of a $100 million expansion, the board just got a wild hair up its — um, back and pulled out the guillotine. Members dispatched Calderone without excuse or reason.

What, oh what, will out-of-control members do next? Suspend all service to Florida? Paint the walls pink? Name the airport after Bugs Bunny? Anything is possible.

Of course, if the county executive was kept in the dark, that means board members didn’t dump Calderone to clear the way for McCoy to take a job he’s long wanted, as multiple sources told Times Union reporters Steve Hughes and Brendan J. Lyons. A job that McCoy himself allegedly tried to convince Calderone to give up two years ago, apparently........
