Churchill: Biden is out, but don't forget the deception

Joe Biden is no longer running for reelection and Kamala Harris seems to be the likely new Democratic nominee. But before we rush ahead to the coming campaign, let’s consider the astonishing deception that brought us to this moment.

I’m talking, of course, about the insistence among so many prominent Democrats that Joe Biden was fit and fine, despite so much evidence to the contrary.

For one of the better examples, look again at the fury that in February met the report from special counsel Robert Hur. As you likely remember, Hur recommended that Biden not be prosecuted for mishandling classified documents because, he said, the president’s lack of mental acuity would make it hard to prove he knowingly committed a crime.

“At trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview with him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory,” Hur wrote. “It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him — by then a former president well into his eighties — of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”

In a way, Hur was doing........
