Since the start of the Ukraine conflict, Russia has avoided large-scale military parades in Red Square, given the potential for a high-profile Ukrainian attack.
Russia is scaling back its annual Victory Day parade in Moscow next week, citing security concerns as its war with Ukraine is now in its fifth year.
Typically held on May 9, the Victory Day parade is among the largest secular events on the Russian calendar. A holdover from the era of the Soviet Union, it commemorates the end of World War II and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Soviet/Russian people in the “Great Patriotic War” against Nazi Germany.
