Trump asks Supreme Court to allow White House ballroom construction 

The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Friday to immediately allow construction on the White House ballroom and berated lower judges for halting it, insisting the project must proceed for national security. 

“This Project, like its predecessors, should be a matter for the President and the political process, not construction-by-injunction,” Solicitor General D. John Sauer wrote in the administration’s emergency appeal. 

It brings the monthslong legal battle over the president’s planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom to the justices for the first time since Trump tore down the East Wing last fall to make way for the site.

As construction has progressed, Trump has pointed to recent shootings in his proximity to say a ballroom is necessary to protect the sitting president. 

It is one of several major real estate projects the president has launched as he reshapes the image of the nation’s capital during his second term. His plans for a golf course, an arch, the Kennedy Center and the Reflecting Pool have also come under legal challenges.
