Live updates: Hegseth, Caine hold Pentagon briefing amid ceasefire

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Dan Caine will provide an update on the state of play in the Iran war on Friday morning, three days after President Trump indefinitely extended a ceasefire.

The fight between the countries has turned into a tit-for-tat of gunboat diplomacy with a double blockade.

On Capitol Hill, Senate Republicans are ramping up the pressure on Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to approve a Senate-passed bill to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security but not Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol.

Meanwhile, Democrats in the lower chamber are seeking to force an end to President Trump’s military operation in Iran, with some members weighing plans to force a vote on a war powers resolution.

Trump on Friday will travel to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where he’ll attend the Republican National Committee’s spring retreat.
