Catholic Teacher Fired in UK For Answering Questions About ‘Religion and Abortion’
A school in the United Kingdom fired a teacher for saying she was pro-life, and now she’s fighting the case at an employment tribunal.
Sarah Morse, a United States citizen, had been a teacher for over 20 years and had recently begun teaching at Arbroath High School in Scotland when students who were curious about her American background asked her opinion on such topics as President Donald Trump and abortion.
Morse answered their questions, and at the end of the day on Nov. 19, 2025, she was called to the school office.
“When I was summoned to the office, I thought it was to go through paperwork and school procedures such as fire drills after accepting an extension to my contract,” Morse said. “Instead, I was summarily dismissed by the school management.”
“Summary dismissal” terminates employment without notice, and it usually occurs in cases of “gross misconduct (for example theft, fraud, violence),” according to the UK government website.
Morse’s “misconduct” was the conversation she had with her students.
