Swindon Town started well but concern is starting to grow
Swindon Town have enjoyed a very strong start to the season, but the more we see, the less it feels like we know about this team.
I can’t think of many post-match interviews in which a team has been savaged quite as much as Ian Holloway did to his players after the 2-2 draw with Grimsby Town. It was not without justification; the team had again failed to string together more than a patch of good play amidst a long run of tedium.
Following two early set-piece goals, which were a pleasing novelty for a team which rarely seems to thrive in those areas, that seemed to be it from the first half. The fact that Swindon were as poor as they were, consistently giving the ball away and not getting it back, and Grimsby still did not look like they were going to win the game is a mild positive, as was the way the substitutions changed the match. But I am starting to reach the period where I am growing concerned.
In the league, I would be willing to argue that Swindon have not put in a good performance since the win over Harrogate Town on September 13. That was two and a half months and nine games........
