'Thank you for everything you do for our city' - MP
Last week in Parliament, I took part in the Armistice Day debate. During the debates, I spoke in remembrance of those from our city who have served to protect our country across centuries of conflict and I also highlighted the vital work of local groups ensuring that those who have served, and continue to serve, are never forgotten.
From the Redwick History Group, who unveiled a grave marker for a Crimean War veteran at St Thomas’ Church, to the Falklands Veterans still campaigning for the release of documents from the board of inquiry into the bombing of the Sir Galahad, to the Newport Veterans Hub and the Newport Merchant Navy Association, these organisations embody the spirit of remembrance and advocacy. Thank you all for your hard work supporting and remembering those who gave so much for the country, and thanks to everyone serving today, keeping it safe and protecting our freedoms.
Always the weekend........
