Mount Whitney hiker found dead after nearly weeklong search
Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in the continental U.S. and a popular hike, was the site of multiple rescue efforts last year.
LATEST Jan. 5, 1:39 p.m. Following a dayslong investigation, Inyo County Search & Rescue found Taylor Rodriguez dead approximately half a mile northwest from Upper Boy Scout Lake on Mount Whitney, which he attempted to summit before going missing last week.
The search and rescue team discovered Rodriguez's body near the north fork of Lone Pine Creek Trail — about 12,000 feet high on the mountain with an elevation of 14,505 feet — at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, an updated social media post read. No further details, including Rodriguez's cause of death, are available at this time, Inyo County Search & Rescue said.
