Bay Area faith leaders chain themselves outside SF ICE field office in protest
Faith leaders and community members chained themselves outside the United States Appraisers Building entrance in protest of Immigration Customs and Enforcement.
Over 100 people, including faith leaders, took part in a protest aimed at stopping immigration enforcement in San Francisco. During the protest, over a dozen people chained themselves together, blocking access to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office on Tuesday morning.
Rabbis, priests and fellow community members began blocking both entrances of the United States Appraisers Building, singing protest songs such as “This Little Light of Mine” and “We Shall Not Be Moved.” A banner stretched across the building’s facade behind them, saying: “Our Faiths Teach Us: Love Thy Neighbor & Disrupt Injustice.”

The protest was organized by a coalition of faith leaders, including rabbis and priests from across the Bay Area, alongside Bay Resistance with the goal of drawing attention to the harsh tactics used by ICE agents since President Donald Trump took office.
Bay Resistance told SFGATE that more than 120 immigrants have been detained at the site between May and October, prompting volunteers from faith communities across the Bay Area to hold daily vigils there, offering accompaniment, coffee and information for people attending check-ins or court hearings.
