Some things in politics seem impossible to figure out. Take Donald Trump recapturing the U.S. presidency on Tuesday night … and some people in Canada wildly cheering this as a good thing.
Of course, if you have stock investments — the Dow Jones surged 1,400-plus points Wednesday morning — you might have special reason to celebrate. Whether that surge lasts is yet to be determined.

But Trump’s threatened tariffs should be disconcerting to Canadians — especially in resource-based Saskatchewan, where we exported $27 billion to the U.S. in 2023.
A Trump administration has also vowed to end the aid Ukraine needs to ward off the Russian invasion. Given the hereditary connection to Ukraine in this province, anything that helps advance Russian’s attempted military takeover will be disheartening to many here.
The Saskatchewan Party government has wholeheartedly supported Ukraine.
