The humbled Premier Scott Moe telling voters he has heard them — even those voters of the NDP variety — might not have been most telling moment of Saskatchewan’s 2024 election night.

A more telling moment was provided by departing Finance Minister Donna Harpauer — not only co-chair of this successful Saskatchewan Party election, but also chair of Moe’s leadership campaign seven years ago — when she essentially said in a CBC election night interview that Moe must govern from the centre.

If only there was still someone else around to whisper sensible things in his ear. If only we could trust him to listen.

Harpauer wasn’t necessarily a favourite of everyone, but — on many matters — she was undoubtedly a voice of reason in cabinet. Suddenly, there are fewer of those voices.

Retiring with Harpauer are Don Morgan, Gord Wyant and Dustin Duncan — not all moderates, either, but often more........
