ROBINET: The news cup overfloweth
As I sit down to write this column on a recent Sunday morning, it’s on the heels of one of the most fraught news cycles in recent memory.
The former president of the U.S. has been shot, or at least knicked, in an apparent assassination attempt; the full impact of a comprehensive and divisive right-winged political document is being rolled out; fitness guru Richard Simmons has died, as has celebrity sex therapist Dr. Ruth; and soccer fans of all stripes are poised to watch the showdown between England and Spain in the final football/soccer match of Euro 2024.
What to write about, what to write about?!
Having read previously that the fabled Project 2025 document was next to impossible to find online, I set myself that task this morning, only to be mildly disappointed when a simple search immediately yielded the document, titled Mandate For Leadership, The Conservative Promise.
At 922 pages, the document is a bit wieldy for today’s column, but now that I’ve downloaded it, perhaps I’ll circle back at some point.
Of course, the question begs to be asked, is this blueprint to a whiter, brighter, righter America really relevant to those of us living in Chatham-Kent?
A few years ago, I probably wouldn’t have thought so, but today, no matter how outrageous and exclusive this view for America is, there will be those among us who believe it to be a great option for Canada as well.
