The Canada Revenue Agency doesn't seem to be able to hold up its end of the bargain and meet its own standards

I made sure to take my blood pressure medication before calling the Canada Revenue Agency.

And that was a good thing, since my blood was soon boiling and I could feel a vein pulsing in my temple, as it often does whenever I have to contact CRA.

Let me say from the outset that this rant is not meant to disparage the people who work at CRA. Toiling away with tax forms must be tedious and challenging, and I am sure employees often hear complaints from frustrated taxpayers who feel they’ve been wronged by an anonymous and unfeeling bureaucracy.

But my God, there’s got to be a better way than the Kafkaesque rigmarole that is every single attempt at communication with the taxman.

They say that nothing is certain but death and taxes, and in my case, I fear the latter may cause the former to occur prematurely from the sheer stress of trying to get answers about my latest tax reassessment.

To be clear: I believe in taxation. I might grumble about what I have to pay, like most people, but I am grateful for the health care,........
