CHEERS AND JEERS: Cheers to Summerside for hosting Centennial Cup

Cheers to Summerside’s wealth of volunteers and staff who have once again demonstrated an outsized ability to host national sporting events. The Centennial Cup, whose playoffs begin this afternoon, has welcomed 10 junior A hockey teams from across Canada to the Prince County, P.E.I. capital. The host team, Summerside’s D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals, know they can count on community and fan support for these events, having hosted the Centennial Cup on three previous occasions since 1989. The 2026 tournament will culminate with the championship game, scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday.
