Still no clear answers over reason for Colin Fitzgerald trade
A frustration for journalists is when there’s more to a story than can be corroborated on the record or when no one will talk.
The Peterborough Petes confounding trade of hometown boy Colin Fitzgerald is such a case.
In trying to understand why they would trade a player they went through hoops 18 months earlier to sign, a foundational piece of a rebuild, it was hard to buy the Petes explanation.
Petes GM and VP of operations Mike Oke said they made the deal because it was a substantial offer from the Soo Greyhounds and wouldn’t address any other reasons for the trade other than it would benefit the team in the long run.
Sure, six draft picks is nothing to sneeze at, but that type of currency is usually used to get a player like, well, Colin Fitzgerald. Someone who can help you now and for years to come.
