Steven Freer, 31, was warned the jail term was likely for the drunken attack on Magdalen Street.

Long-serving Labour councillor Paul Kendrick, 66, who is currently serving a year in the ceremonial role of Lord Mayor, was chased, shoved against a window and hit while on the ground.

It happened while Freers was already on bail for three earlier offences including an attack on a second man.
