Railway delays on derby day after freight train breaks down and points failure
The chaos affected Greater Anglia services in Norfolk and Suffolk this morning.
A broken-down freight train at Bury St Edmunds caused delays and cancellations, affecting services between Peterborough, Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds.
A points failure between Ely and King's Lynn caused further issues, which have since been resolved.
Despite this, trains running between Downham Market and King's Lynn may still be revised, a spokesman for National Rail has warned.
Passengers travelling between Ipswich and Norwich, and Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds, were already facing planned engineering works, which sparked the replacement of trains with buses.
The works have been slammed by both town fans and Canaries alike for coinciding with the East Anglian derby at Carrow Road.
