'Stop feeding the birds!' Market traders call for pigeon feeders to be fined

For years traders have battled with pigeons and seagulls which they say terrorise customers and steal food.

But they say the biggest issue is the people who feed them, which encourages the feathered fiends to stay, despite a number of signs across the market instructing people not to.

After Norwich City Council introduced a hawk, named Travis, to scare the pigeons away, market holders are calling for more serious measures with a longer-lasting effect.

Dale Barker, who runs Mick's Foam near the top of the market where pigeons congregate, has to deal with pigeons messing on his stock, which he says "spoils them".

He said: "The hawk helps when he's around but once he leaves they just come back.
