Food system needs 'radical transformations' on a wartime scale, warns report
The "Roadmap for Resilience: A UK Food Plan for 2050" says the UK food system is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions and vulnerable to supply chain disruption - while poor diets cost the economy £268bn a year in direct healthcare costs.
The report calls for three core transformations - including "more resilient farming", with growers supported to adapt to climate change, diversify their business and produce more fruit, vegetables and wholegrains, reducing the reliance on imports.
It also recommends "smarter land use", such as restoring peatlands and expanding woodland cover, from 14pc........
