Colin Sutton, who was voted in to the role earlier this month, would not be drawn on the extraordinary footage posted online in which officers discuss visiting a brothel and illegally arresting black women.

The video was filmed on a body-worn camera which had been removed from a woman, animal rights activist Gemma Barnes, after her arrest and kept in a room at Bethel Street police station.

Officers did not realise the device was still on so recordings of more than four hours of their conversations were later returned to Ms Barnes, who has posted them online.

Mr Sutton, who represents Reform, was asked about the case at the first meeting of Norfolk's police and crime panel since his election victory.

However, he said he would wait for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to review its earlier investigation into the issue.

"I had a lot of interest from the media asking me to comment on that," he said.

"And I would not comment other than to say that rightly there is an investigation going on and it is only fair on all the parties that we wait for that........
