New Delhi: During the launch of its new AI TV lineup, LG made a major announcement for its TV operating system– WebOS. In 2024, the software completed over a decade of powering smart TV experience. Celebrating the milestone, LG announced WebOS Re: New Program, which promises operating system upgrades for the next five years. The company says that each generational update will completely revamp the user interface, giving users the feel of a new TV.

In addition to announcing webOS Re: New Program, LG also announced the addition of Apple AirPlay and Google Chromecast built-in to the webOS. With this, users will be able to effortlessly cast content from their mobile devices (both Android and iOS) to the large screen of the TV. The 2024 models of the LG OLED AI TV and LG QNED AI TV will also support these new compatibility features.

The webOS not only powers smart televisions made by LG but also ships with TVs from several other brands. The operating system offers a personalised home entertainment experience as it allows users to create up to 10 individual profiles to get content tailored to their tastes.

Users can customise the Home screen for each profile and set personalised settings to match their viewing preferences. This allows easy access to a user’s favourite content and services in addition to access to a personalised picture wizard– a service that lets you adjust image quality.

Notably, each profile can be protected with a password to stop other members of the household from seeing what type of content you watch.

The webOS comes with several accessibility features within Quick Card’s Accessibility section. Users can find these accessibility features on the Home screen, which includes services designed to support disabilities. The TV software also comes with remote control tutorials as well as a chatbot service to help users access various services with just their voice.
