New Delhi: At a time when the Parliament is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution, the comment made by Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha has created trouble for the BJP. In the winter session of Parliament, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha discussed the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution and during the discussion, leaders from the Opposition as well as the ruling party remembered everything from the Constitution to Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.

All the opposition parties including Congress are trying to corner the government by making an over Amit Shah’s statement on Baba Saheb in Rajya Sabha. The seriousness of the matter can be gauged from the fact that after the Opposition raised the issue, PM Modi came out in support of Shah. Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself had to give clarification by holding a press conference.

In the words of BR Ambedkar, “Political power is the key to all problems and Dalits can achieve their freedom by uniting and capturing power. Political power should be used for the development of society.” Therefore, he had also appealed to Dalits to win political power. That is why Dr Ambedkar had raised the demand for minority status for Dalits and political rights like other minorities in the Round Table Conferences and had also received them in the form of a Communal Award.

On this, Gandhiji had threatened to go on a fast unto death in protest against it, saying that this would break up Hindu society, while he had no objection to giving these rights to other minorities.........
